Getting Started

Congratulations on taking the first step in your therapeutic journey, I know this process can be difficult. Every therapist is different and it’s important you feel welcomed, heard, and understood. Here’s how you can get started with me.

  1. Reach out to me via email or phone, and we can set up a time for a brief 10-15 minute chat. This consultation is free and gives us a chance to connect. I'll learn more about what you're looking for, and you’ll have the space to ask any questions you may have for me.

  2. If we decide we're a good fit, I’ll gather your information and we'll schedule your first session.

  3. Before your first session, I’ll send you a confirmation, directions, and a link to required intake documents you will complete online.

  4. That’s everything. I’m really looking forward to connecting with you!

The First Session

Starting therapy and meeting someone new can feel like a lot of things at once — exciting, nerve-racking, hopeful, scary, burdensome, relieving etc. I get it and it’s a natural experience when starting something new. I really love first sessions and getting to know you more. Here’s what you can expect first starting out:

  1. The first session is a little different from the rest — we’ll start with introductions and take care of some basic housekeeping.

  2. In the first 1-2 few sessions, we focus on getting to know you — your unique experiences, relationships, and the various aspects of your life. As an MFT, I’ve been trained through a systems lens, meaning I see you within the context of your relationships, environment, and the world around you. I believe who you are is shaped not just by your inner world, but also by your family, work, social circles, and cultural influences. This approach helps us explore how different aspects of your life — family dynamics, work, social circles, and even cultural influences —may be impacting your well-being. My goal is to keep this time relaxed and conversational, creating a space where we can begin to understand patterns and find solutions that feel right for you.

  3. We’ll talk about the reasons you’re seeking therapy, and collaboratively set goals that will guide our work together.

  4. Throughout therapy, we will check-in on progress and make adjustments as needed. Most importantly, you will feel empowered to advocate for yourself to ensure the experience is as helpful and meaningful for you.
